12th July 2015 – Southampton
Woke to an overcast morning cool and
drizzle and a cold breeze.
No tours planned we needed to do some
shopping. We had each pre-paid $8 each way for a shuttle bus from the terminal
to town only to discover it was well within walking distance so got ripped off
there.
We arrived in town about 0900 only to
discover the shopping centre opens at 1100 on a Sunday. Wandering around we
found a corner shop that sold simm cards and pre-paids for phones that meant
for about seven or eight English Pounds we could phone home for one penny per
minute.
After spending quite a while working out
how to activate the “very simple to do” instructions we finally got a call
through to David. This was the first time we had been able to talk to him since
we left Australia. Because David cannot read he doesn’t have a smart phone as
he cannot read text messages. Using apps on a smart phone (iPhone etc), when we
have access to wifi we and are able to talk to Lisa but not David so contacting
him was really good and it meant that we would be able to call him from each
port while we had funds on the new prepaid.
Unfortunately I have lost my iPhone – what
a pain.
I had it when we went through security
coming back to the ship, after that it is anyone’s guess as to what happened to
it, I think it may have fallen out of a pocket when we were in the buffet
having late lunch – not much chance of it being handed in either.
I still have the original Telstra simm card
as I had removed it when I purchased the cheap one to call David so my data
should be safe.
I hope someone has handed in your iPhone. I'm so enjoying reading about your travels, especially the places I've also been too. We'll have lots to talk about when we next catch up. I'm in Kent this week and waiting to hear when I'll be starting work. Hopefully it will be next Monday
